Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) was established in 1919 is amongst the largest medical universities in Europe with 100 years of academic experience and with great potential for development.

PUMS has nearly 10,000 students of which 1000 are enrolled in English Language Programs. English-language programs were introduced over 20 years back and offer Postgraduation level programs in Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Science and Physiotherapy under its 3 faculties. PUMS is a major educational and research centre and provides clinical teaching in its six partner hospitals. PUMS works worldwide with foreign institutions and universities in terms of joint research, joint participation in international programs and research projects as well as in joint publications and scientific conferences, exchange of students and teachers.


Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The six-year M.D. Program is based on the Polish curriculum and designed for international candidates who have graduated from high school, and who have obtained good grades in: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English. This program is fully recognized by the Medical Board of California. It is divided into two parts as described below.

Part I takes up the three preclinical years and is devoted primarily to the following subjects: Anatomy, Medical Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Histology and Embryology, Physiology. During that time the clinical aspects of these subjects are gradually introduced as well.

Part II starts in the fourth year and takes up the remaining three years of the course: two years of clinical knowledge and training and one year dedicated to elective clinical practice. Upon completing all of the theoretical and clinical subjects and after passing all of the required examinations, students are awarded the degree of Medical Doctor — M.D.

Candidates for this program may be accepted after demonstrating a necessary record of academic achievement and after passing an interview with PUMS Admissions Committee.


Nicolaus Copernicus University

Nicolaus Copernicus University Collegium Medicum is a part of one of the was best universities in Poland, Nicolaus Copernicus University which was founded in 1945. The university offers Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral studies in 17 programs under faculty Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The 6-year MD Program was launched in 2009 as the first full-degree program for international students and has been enjoying great popularity ever since.

The curriculum includes a broad range of subjects covering different medical specialties. The cross-section of disciplines prepares our doctors-to-be for professional practice and helps them choose their future specialization path. The curriculum also includes obligatory 4-week summer placements after years 1-5 in nursing, outpatient health care, family medicine, internal diseases, surgery, emergency medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, and paediatrics. The program begins with a 1-month preparatory course in biology, physics, chemistry and basics of Polish.


Master of Science in Physiotherapy (M.Sc. Physio.)

The 5-year uniform M.Sc. Physiotherapy programme is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Collegium Medicum. It constitutes a comprehensive combination of knowledge and practical skills in such areas as kinesitherapy, physical therapy, balneotherapy, manual therapy, therapeutic massage, and special methods.

The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of physical therapy methods based on various forms of physical energy occurring in the human environment, such as movement and thermal, mechanical, electrical, light, chemical, and other types of stimuli. Physiotherapy deals with eliminating the repercussions of disease, alleviating disease processes and their effects, and restoring human psychophysical efficiency. The curriculum also includes intra-year work placements during each academic year in physiotherapy and kinesitherapy clinics and hospital wards

Graduates of Physiotherapy program are prepared and competent to provide various therapeutic services, including systemic rehabilitation (after traumas, surgeries, in chronic diseases), pulmonary, neurological, cardiac and geriatric rehabilitation, or the treatment of children in coma. Physiotherapists are trained and qualified to work in hospitals and outpatient clinics, private clinics, sports clubs, recreation centres, spa centres, health resorts, or social care facilities – there are many career paths open to our graduates of Physiotherapy.


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing)

The 3-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Collegium Medicum. The Nursing program in Polish has always been incredibly popular and a decision was made to make it available to international students as well.

The 3-year B.Sc. Nursing program is a gateway for professionals who are prepared to provide direct health care services to children and adults in hospital wards, general and specialist clinics, emergency medicine departments, institutional care facilities, social care centres, health resorts, as well as in community or industrial health care. Courses take place in specially-equipped labs where our students practice nursing procedures in simulated conditions. The skills are then transferred to real-life situations during work placements in various healthcare institutions.

The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of nursing, encompassing the following areas: health promotion, preventive health care, health education, and – most importantly – a broad scope of treatment, rehabilitation and nursing procedures. It includes basic medical sciences, social sciences basics of nursing care and a cross-section of specialist nursing care related to internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, midwifery, gynaecology, psychiatry, critical care, rehabilitation, neurology, geriatrics, palliative care and basics of emergency medicine.
